Live Community Theatre

Farmer's markets in America and Market days in Europe are nothing short of a colorful theatrical production.  Assorted folks gather and create their sets filled with freshly picked corn, zucchini, cukes, lettuce, swiss chard, broccoli, beans, new potatoes, garlic, tomatoes, eggplant.  You can find fish as fresh as Gramp's from the sea and cheese from cows that are well cared for.  Homemade jams and jellies of all colors, flavors and consistencies flirt to be purchased to compliment a freshly made scone.  Then there is the artisan bread, a new word for a centuries old tradition of lovingly baking bread from scratch.  A family favorite is sourdough. Blueberries, plums, raspberries and rhubarb, gooseberries, peaches and strawberries add to the color. Bouquets of garden flowers provide food for the soul. Assorted musicians stroll and play throughout the entire production.  Tables set for sampling and savouring the delicious crepes, smoked salmon, fair trade coffee, heavenly almond croissants, sausage rolls and more provide a place to absorb the magic that is taking place.  Guest booths here support the mentally challenged who proudly display their rug hooking or chair caning with smiles that melt your heart.  Wherever you travel, this is the sort of local gathering and experience that takes you to the heartbeat of the community.  I am grateful for those who choose to farm; supporting our life with healthful options reflecting their life's work.  I will miss these beautiful productions in the Northeast every week and dream of next spring... when once more the seasons of planting and reaping continue and the theatre goes on.
