Hidcote Lavender

Just went to one of my favorite garden shops and bought some Hidcote lavender.  Having visited Hidcote Manor near Chipping Campden this spring on our English Garden Tour, I thought it would be fun to add Hidcote Lavender to the lavender I have already planted.  Finally, I have found a place in the garden where lavender thrives; not too wet, not too much clay, and liberal sunshine.  The gardens of Hidcote Manor were not on our itinerary and, as we spent the day touring the Cotswolds, adding it spontaneously worked well. Hidcote Manor, designed in The Arts and Crafts Style by Lawrence Johnson, began in 1907, it is one of the most influential 20^th century gardens and is spectacular.  Nestled in The Cotswolds Hidcote overlooks the Vale of Evesham and the gardens are a series of outdoor rooms.
The weather as we toured the Cotswolds was our only misty showery day in all of ten days of touring England and the Cotswold villages looked even a bit more fairytalesque in the mist; clouds and gardens sparkling from light raindrops.  Hidcote Manor did not disappoint. While we could have spent many more hours there, we each wandered independently until our watches took us back to the well stocked shop and our private driver for the return to Bath via expressway. There are trade offs with each decision.  The wanderings at Hidcote were well worth taking a faster route to Bath.  For our 2011 English Garden Tour, I am including Hidcote Manor.
