With our local guide, you will explore the wilds and wonders of South Africa on this journey offering you an in depth sampler of South Africa.  We arrive in Johannesburg where we will visit Soweto, tour Nelson Mandela's home, and begin to immerse ourselves in all the things South Africa offers.  The Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO World Heritage site, sets the stage for discovering the ancient roots of humankind in South Africa with Palaeo anthropologists in the veld where fascinating fossils and history come alive for us. The Cradle of Humankind was chosen by National Geographic as a place to see in 2017.   Enroute, we pass through a reserve of Lion’s and Rhino’s.  The Mahboneng Precint is filled with galleries, shops, and cafes to whet our taste of South African art, food, and local scenes.  Pretoria Botanical Gardens and our first women’s artist cooperative in Mapula will round out our days in Johannesburg before departing for our private days on Safari in a private reserve.

Kruger Safari

We depart Jborg for the renowned Kruger National Park and our days of Safari perched at a small family owned distinctive lodge where the rangers will sensitively and expertly lead us on safari each day.  I have selected our lodge in a pristine environment away from the crowds in a private reserve within the vast Kruger National Park.  We will immerse ourselves in this captivating landscape and have the option to take bush walks with the tracker.  Experience all the comforts you expect from Serendipity Traveler amidst an unforgettable region.

Panorama Route

The province of Mpumalanga is in the northeast province of South Africa.  Here lies one of the most beautiful regions of the continent.  One of the world’s best driving routes, the panorama route, will take us through the lush valleys, magnificent mountains, and the region known as the green canyon of South Africa.  Notably, the Blyde River Canyon known as the green grand canyon is spectacular.  We will travel this route stopping to walk and view some of South Africa’s grandeur.

Brimming with the memories of the stunning panorama route, we arrive in Durban to visit the Phansi Museum and the collection of Zulu artifacts housed in an old British colonial villa.  Meandering in the Makaranga Gardens and touring the Ammazulu African Palace continues our cultural experiences.  The Hillcrest Aids center is an inspiring project we will visit that offers a chance to learn more and also see exquisite African beadworks in their notable workshop.  We depart from Durban via included flight south to the renowned Garden Route.

The Garden Route

We arrive in George and take a short ride to Kynsa and the Western Cape Province which is known for its lagoon, after which the town was named, and the stunning coast.  Kynsa is a forested town by the sea that offers us lots to discover.  We will visit the Featherbed Nature reserve and walk amidst the coastal forest with the richness of the flora and fauna.  Exploring ancient sea caves, we will acquaint ourselves with the coast here and perhaps visit a nearby Elephant reserve and savour time at our award winning eco forest lodge as we settle in for an optional spa treatment amidst the tropical woodland setting.  Kynsa, on the famed garden route, is a gem on South Africa’s colorful garden route where spring flowers will be blooming in October.

Enroute to Cape Town

We overnight in Schooneoordt and continue on to Swellendam, a small town with lovely Cape Dutch Architecture, before we settle in the pastoral idyllic Constantia Valley for the duration of our journey in South Africa.  You will visit the notable Table Mountain, historical Robben Island, and world renowned  Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden in the Cape Town region.  We will tour the private garden of Henk Scholtz that is featured in BBC around the world in 80 gardens in Franschhoek.  Our farewell dinner in Cape Town will bring your one of a kind trip to a close with departure from the Cape Town airport brimming with diverse memories of the people, landscape and arts of South Africa.
