September 13- 20, 2010

You can join women travelers to sample some of England's most historic cities and beautiful countryside to see the landscapes that inspired Jane Austen to write classic novels like Emma, Pride & Prejudice and Sense & Sensibility.

This trip is timed to coincide with the 10th Jane Austen Festival in Bath, England. Autumn is a lovely time to take tea and explore London, visit some of the remarkable quintessential English Cotswold villages, and savour the charming Roman city of Bath during the 10th Jane Austen Festival.

Afternoon or evening departure for London, England from your nearest gateway.

Women travelers will arrive at London’s Heathrow International Airport early this morning.   Meet our driver who will transfer you to The Knightsbridge Hotel, in London, a distinctive, small luxury hotel.  There you will meet our founder, Peggy Coonley, who will accompany you for the week exploring England. Join us for a delightful afternoon getting to know London. Our private guide will lead us on a walk of the Royal London Parks providing a splendid overview of London, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Parliament.  Evensong is held this evening 5 at Westminster Cathedral and those who wish can attend.  L

Following breakfast, we will depart for Jane Austen’s Chawton Cottage in the tiny English village of Chawton and glimpse the world of Jane Austen. This is the home where Jane wrote most of her works, creating her own villages and cottages and writing prolifically.  You can stroll the village to see the Chawton House, still inhabited by her brother’s descendants. The Anglican Church Jane attended every Sunday is next door. You can savour the delights at Cassandra’s Cup, a quintessential tea room, before our return to London. If you haven’t yet visited the infamous Harrods, or The Victoria and Albert  there will be time before dinner in the Knightsbridge neighborhood this evening. B/D

Today we will continue exploring London.  Perhaps a visit to the British Museum or exploring the National Gallery or St. Paul’s Cathedral.  We are off to The Ritz for afternoon tea later this afternoon celebrating a royal tradition. Tonight, we visit the West End of London for an evening at the  theatre.  B/L

After breakfast today, we leave London and drive to the World Heritage City of Bath, famous for its hot springs, Roman period baths, Medieval heritage and stately Georgian architecture.  Enroute to Bath, we will walk and tour Avebury, considered one of the most important megalithic stone monuments in all of Europe.  Avebury Manor Garden is a timeless and historic space at the heart of this village.  You will enjoy lunch at the tearoom in Avebury before continuing to Bath and settling in at our luxe small hotel.  A short walk and we are amidst the historical center of Bath.  Later this afternoon, you can explore the center of Bath and perhaps visit the Thermae Spa or tour the Roman Baths.  B/D

The Jane Austen Centre, housed in an elegant Georgian House, will be the center of the opening festivities of the 10th Jane Austen Festival and the beauty of Bath.  Our lovely hotel is in the center of Bath and within walking distance to all the history and merriment as Bath celebrates Jane Austen.  The most spectacular day each year is the first Saturday, when the festival officially ‘opens’ with the Regency Costumed Promenade through the streets of Bath.  Promenaders from all over the world dress in 18th Century attire led by the Town Crier and accompanied by soldiers and sailors adding extra colour to the proceedings. Dinner tonight will be at one of
Bath’s finer restaurants. B/L

Today, we will savour a full day touring the quintessential Cotswolds including the villages of Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold, the Upper and Lower Slaughters, and Castle Combe, often referred to as the prettiest village in all of  England.  We plan to stop at one of The British Tea Councils award winning tea rooms before returning to Bath.  Our farewell dinner will be later this evening.

Our farewell dinner this evening will take place this evening as we enjoy the fruits of one of Britains master chefs using the freshest of local ingredients lovingly prepared .  B/D
