January 17-23,2009

Start  the New Year with time just for you!

Women's travel  to California with Serendipity Traveler will delight you while exploring the magnificence of the Pacific Coast. You will immerse yourself  in the essence of San Francisco and drive across the landmark Golden Gate Bridge to explore the California wine country.  Meandering south, we will settle in Carmel by the Sea and continue our discovery of the spectacular Pacific coast with a trip to the wild and pristine Big Sur area.  I have spent many years in California and particularly Carmel, and it is with pleasure that I have planned our California coastal itinerary for women who wish to travel to California and discover the diverse culture of our stunning west coast. In September or January the weather is perfect to savour the warmth of sunny days without fog or rain.

You will arrive at San Francisco Intl Airport and transfer to our boutique hotel in the heart of San Francisco the charming city by the bay.  After checking in, you may want to catch a cable car ride or walk about the neighborhood before we all gather together for dinner this evening. We will select one of the many chef owned bistros to sample both California cuisine and California wines. D

This morning we will tour the city together with our native guide and capture the essence and colors tucked into the many neighborhoods which comprise San Francisco.   This afternoon offers lots to do. A visit to The Presidio National park, shopping in Union Square, Nob Hill or Ghiradelli.San  Francisco is culturally diverse and offers us numerous ways to spend our time.A visit to the Asian Musuem , the views from Nob Hill , or tea at  The Japanese Tea Gardens are a few of our choices for wandering and exploring.  B/L

We will stop enroute at Filoli, a pirvate property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and enjoy a House and Garden tour.  We will drive on the scenic  Pacific Coast highway, and wind along 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach  before arriving in charming Carmel by the Sea with its storybook cottages.   Upon arrival in Carmel, we will sample all that this spectacular coastal region offers.  Our luxe accomodations are nestled amongst  one of the infamous golf courses, You may wish to enjoy  a spa treatment for your relaxation. The shops, galleries, and beautiful Carmel beach are close and tonight you can enjoy dinner at one of Carmel's finest chef owned restaurants.  B

This morning  you may wish to rise early and see the Pacific sunrise at the beach before going out to the historical  1770 Carmel Mission for a guided tour followed by a naturalist's walk with the park ranger at the magnificent Point Lobos State Park. We will return to Carmel for an afternoon of  walking amidst the art and architecture. Visit the Ansel Adams Gallery or walk along the shore to Carmel Point where the river meets the sea.    B

Today we will leave Carmel early for a full day in, and around, Big Sur.   A visit to Julia Pfeiffer Redwood Forest will offer us varied magnificent walking opportunities.   We will also explore the neighboring pristine beaches – maybe even spotting some of the migrating whales offshore.   Lunch will be savoured at the spectacular coastal gem, Nepenthe, located in the heart of Big Sur country.   We will return to Carmel  in time for our farewell dinner and strolling the village and one more Pacific sunset at Carmel beach.
