Tour Sissinghurst Castle Garden

Sissinghurst Castle Garden  is probably the most beloved 20th century garden in England and is an English Heritage Historic Garden Grade I.

Sissinghurst is managed by the National Trust and is among the most visited gardens in England. Sissinghurst is a personal favourite. The gardens were created by Vita Sackville-West and Sir Harold Nicholson from what was left of an Elizabethan mansion in the 1930's . It is at Sissinghurst where Vita Sackville- West authored twenty books.

Last May on our English Garden tour we had the good fortune of visiting Sissinghurst after hours at dusk. As Serendipity would have it, the garden was open for the first time ever during evening hours, so I arranged our day to arrive late afternoon, settle into our accommodations nearby and then explore Sissinghurst.  Strolling the gardens amidst the setting sunlight with just a mere handful of others was pure delight. The pastoral landscape with views across the hills and valleys known as The Weald of Kent are remarkable. Women joining us this year will enjoy this garden and others on our 2011 English Garden tour.
