The Royal Horticultural Society

lotusEvery January, when the envelope arrives from the Royal Horticultural Society, I know it is time to renew my membership and that our annual English Garden trip will be here before I know it.  Another year has come and gone in the wink of an eye.  The RHS is 200 years old and supports over 2,700 local garden clubs and initiates programs with 1700 communities for Britain in Bloom.  The organization engages with over 10,000 schools across the U.K. in the program, Campaign for School Gardening, launched in 2007 to nurture a love of gardening amongst children.  The RHS receives no government funding and is a stellar example of the dedication of the people and not big government.
As a garden enthusiast, I like supporting the RHS and include their flagship garden at Wisley on our tour.  Endless inspiration and commitment to pass on knowledge is a hallmark of the organization.  The renowned Chelsea Flower Show, held each year, is indeed a signature of the efforts of the Royal Horticultural Society to encourage, educate and enrich the world with gardeners and their gardens.
