Art & Artisans

Our days will be loosely woven to take advantage of the abundance of local resources. You will enjoy taking walks by the sea, touring old granite quarries, the fun of meeting local women artisans working in their galleries and  studios, viewing the work of artists at Rockport’s Art Association, taking time for some writing, knitting, photography, dreaming, and time for you to do simply nothing if you wish.  You can create your weekend’s pace.  You will be comfortable at one of my favorite authentically charming inns within easy walking distance to both quiet beaches, seashore footpaths and the village shops and galleries.  Generations of artists have been drawn to Rockport, in particular, for its uncommonly magical light that has inspired artists since Winslow Homer including many who painted at the turn of the century in a group known as the Cape Ann School.  This evening we will sip wine while overlooking the Atlantic at sunset.

Cape Ann

A private tour of the Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester, America’s oldest seaport, will provide a backdrop for further explorations as you discover Cape Ann.  Cape Ann is blessed with numerous lighthouses and lots of freshly caught lobster.  As we make a photographic loop around the Cape, we will visit a lighthouse or two and enjoy freshly caught lobster or whatever you wish.  Sunset at Halibut Point is one of those spectacular experiences on the Cape. We will visit some of the lesser known places in the area and continue to discover this pristine region on the coast where artists and photographers, painters, musicians, poets, fisher folks, and sailors celebrate the sea.

Lighthouses & Beaches

Enjoy a leisurely morning with a beach stroll, gallery visit, or perhaps a walk to The Headlands overlooking Rockport Harbor. This afternoon we will continue to discover all that this region has to offer.  Dinner this evening will be overlooking Sandy Bay in Rockport at one of the local favorites.
