Charlestons Historic Houses & Gardens

March 26-March 30, 2009

Take a Women's Travel Weekend to Charleston, South Carolina with Serendipity Traveler and join like minded spirited women travelers who want to experience new places and people.   Charleston, South Carolina is one of America's favorite cities and remains one of the best preserved cities in the Old South.  Women traveling to Charleston with us will experience the very best of Charleston and a sampler of Savannah, Georgia when the southern gardens are at their peak bloom. We will enjoy the Charleston Garden Club 74th annual Tour of Private Houses and Gardens. We created Women's Travel Weekends with our signature finely crafted itineraries, luxury boutique accommodations and opportunities for you to savour the cultural essence and spirit of each destination

We will arrive in Charleston, South Carolina and transfer independently to our luxury accommodations in the heart of the historic district. Settle in before getting acquainted with the charms of the city. We will gather for dinner in the historic district. D

This morning you will get an overview of Charleston with a locally guided tour.  After lunch we have tickets for The Garden Club of Charleston's 74th Annual Walking Tour of private Houses & Gardens.  The tour will include some of Charleston's finest homes and gardens in the Historic District and will also feature flowers arranged by members of The Garden Club of Charleston.  Refreshments will be served in a lovely private garden. This is the best time of the year to visit Charleston, and the gardens will be at their peak bloom. Tickets are limited for this event which always sells out.  B

A short drive north of Charleston is the Magnolia Plantation offering spectacular Gardens of Camellias and Azaleas which will be in full bloom. There is a house and garden tour and on the property is the Audubon Swamp Garden located in an excellent place to take in some of the local wildlife.  An optional nature train takes visitors around the perimeter of the plantation. Upon returning to Charleston, there will be time for discovering galleries, shops and perhaps touring another historic house . B

We will depart Charleston early this morning for a full day in Savannah.  We will be stopping along the way in historical Beaufort and then on to Savannah, a short drive away. Upon arrival, we will take a guided tour of Savannah’s center, a living museum and the largest National Historic Landmark District in the country.  Meander and explore before returning to Charleston for our farewell dinner this evening. B, D

We will leave Charleston with fond memories of the history, gardens, and charms of southern living.
